Commenting on the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Social Care's new report on social care workers, 'Elevation, Registration and Standardisation', Anna Davies, Policy and Research Manager at Independent Age, said:

“Independent Age would  very much welcome the introduction of a national care body, which would put care staff on a par with the NHS workforce. In our view this will help care staff receive the recognition and status they so deserve.

“We welcome the Committee’s proposed introduction of a defined qualification for care workers, standardised training and career development and clearly defined job titles and pay structures.

"In addition, we echo the Committee’s statement that professionalising the workforce is not in itself a solution to the current social care crisis.

"A substantial social care funding settlement needs to be a priority for government.”
