'Boosting Advice' fund – £2.8 million to be awarded in July 2024

In July 2024, Independent Age will distribute up to £2.8 million of funding to support advice-focused organisations helping older people in financial hardship.

This three-year funding will be awarded in a number of targeted areas in the UK, which we selected using the Index of Multiple Deprivation and census data highlighting populations of older people.

What we want to achieve

For us, an improved life means increased financial wellbeing, enabling greater choice and independence. This fund will help advice organisations that can make a difference around the themes of income and costs, and so improve older people’s financial wellbeing.

  • Income – Older people facing financial hardship will have sufficient income and receive the financial support they're entitled to – for example, Pension Credit, Attendance Allowance and Carers Allowance.
  • Costs – Older people facing financial hardship are protected from unfair or unavoidable costs. This might include work around reducing bills, support with housing repairs, dealing with rent increases, and supporting older people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

Next steps

The opportunity to submit an Expression of Interest to this fund closed on 20 February, and we will be inviting shortlisted organisations to submit a full application in the next few weeks.
