This research, produced by national charity Independent Age and City, University of London, analyses data from a survey that tracked the financial status of people at State Pension age and above across nearly a decade between 2010 and 2019. It reveals that a large number of people in later life live precariously, just one step away from falling into poverty. Rather than looking at ‘snapshots’, it looks at ‘income dynamics’, how people’s income changes over time, and how older people move in and out of poverty.

This research is part of Independent Age’s campaigning on poverty in later life. You can find our report on poverty on later life, and our policy calls, here.
