Following figures from the Health and Social Care Information Centre on social isolation and the experience of social service users, we had a day of appearing on BBC One, BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio 5 Live and ITV Granada to discuss the issue of isolation.
BBC Radio 4 - World at One
In the afternoon, Sheila Breen-Rickerby talked to James Robbins on BBC Radio 4's World at One about Independent Age's befriending scheme she found helped with her loneliness.
BBC Radio 5 Live - Richard Bacon
This was followed by Winiefred Green joining Richard Bacon to talk about her experience, in a heart-rendering interview that led to futher discussion throughout the programme.
ITV News Granada
Winifred then appeared on ITV Granada which covers the North-West of England to tell her story again.
This activity created a massive surge in website visitors and volunteer visitor sign-ups.
So we would like to thank all of those involved, especially Sheila and Winniefred.
And if you are inspired by their stories head to the volunteer page.
