Pension Insurance Corporation

Pension Insurance Corporation (PIC) provides stable retirement income through financial strength, comprehensive risk management, and asset and liability management.

Pension Insurance Corporation

Pension Insurance Corporation (PIC), a specialist insurer of defined benefit pension schemes, has a single purpose, to pay the pensions of its current and future policyholders, by securing their pension promises with long-term investments. This makes PIC keenly aware of the need for people to have financial security in later life. So, there’s a firm alignment between PIC and Independent Age, given both organisations are supporting older people to live a secure and purposeful later life.

PIC has been a corporate partner since 2019. Together, we have made a huge difference in the lives of older people living in financial hardship.

Time and again, PIC has shown its commitment to improving later life. In 2020 it donated £250,000 to our COVID-19 Grants Fund, which enabled us to support community organisations to provide help to older people.

More recently, in 2022, PIC donated £1.5 million to support older people through the cost-of-living crisis. Tracy Blackwell, PIC’s CEO, explains why PIC felt it was so important to donate at such a crucial time: "So, in 2022 we were delighted to donate £1.5 million to Independent Age to support their response to the cost-of-living crisis. £1 million of that went to the innovative Cost-of-living Grants Fund, enabling grassroots organisations in communities across the country to support older people most affected by rising energy and food costs. The remainder of the donation has helped to fund six new roles at Independent Age, expanding its capacity to offer older people practical advice and support during the crisis.”

Each year PIC hosts its Treasure Hunt across the City of London to raise money for charity. PIC staff get involved, alongside their clients and suppliers. Everyone participating dresses up so, on one night of the year, there are more than 450 dressed-up people out on the streets of London. Teams compete for treasure and take part in mini games to shoot up the leader board.

PIC staff also get involved with Independent Age by taking part in other amazing fundraising challenges. Team members have run the London Marathon, taken to the air for a sky dive and trekked the Yorkshire Three Peaks, and hosted bake sales and raffles to raise money for us.

We are delighted to attend PIC’s annual policyholder event, where we speak with policyholders about Independent Age and how we may be able to support them. We value opportunities to speak with policyholders and to host lunch-and-learn sessions with PIC staff, which enable us to highlight the challenges affecting older people and how we are making a difference together.
