On 15 September 2015 Independent Age hosted a research seminar with a number of representatives from across the care sector, including the Care Quality Commission (CQC), commissioners, and care providers to help inform our research on the information needed for different stakeholders to accurately and reliably assess the quality and safety of care homes. The seminar considered how information on quality and safety could be enhanced or improved.
This short document summarises the key observations and insights from the seminar.
What we talked about
(i) The first session focussed on the view of the care sector itself, principally the regulator, commissioner and provider.
(ii) The second session focussed on the public view of information that is available when comparing and choosing a care home.
Next steps
We will be using the key messages from the seminar to inform our work on improving quality and safety information on care homes. This work will include qualitative research, research report, and the launch of a public campaign in 2016.
