The care system is in crisis.

As a society, we’re living longer. This is great news but it also brings challenges: over a million older people are being denied the basic care and support they need to stay independent.

The system needs reform. Here's how we think that can happen...

More older people are living with long-term conditions. Making sure that more people get the care they need in their communities can relieve pressure on hospitals and help older people to remain independent.

More support for older people leaving hospital

When older people go into hospital, they sometimes need extra support to go home. However, organising this support can be challenging. Often older people are stuck in hospital beds, waiting weeks for the care they need to leave safely.

Everyone to have access to a good care home

It is unacceptable that, in some areas, people are forced to choose care homes that are rated inadequate. We want better choices everyone who needs to move into a care home.

Better support for older carers

More than half of carers aged 85+ provide over 50 hours-a-week of care. This saves the NHS and care systems billions of pounds. Yet many carers are unaware of their rights and receive no support.
