Pension Insurance Corporation (PIC) provides stable retirement income through financial strength, comprehensive risk management, and asset and liability management.
Our five-year partnership with PIC started in 2019. Beginning with staff fundraising activities such as a City of London treasure hunt that raised tens of thousands of pounds in year one and informative lunch and learn sessions and volunteering, PIC became the first funder of our emergency response to COVID 19, The Independent Age Grants Fund, with an incredibly generous donation of £250,000 in May 2020.
PIC’s donation enabled us to support more small charities across the UK that provide vital and practical services to older people, but which were experiencing additional difficulties because of the COVID-19 crisis. The donation is helping those organisations that are supporting older people who may be isolated, neglected or living in very poor communities facing stigma and discrimination; people who may have difficulties accessing services, perhaps because they are homeless, live with HIV or are hidden from view in an abusive relationship. With PIC’s support, we will make sure that the needs of these groups of older people are understood and met.

In early 2020 we delivered a lunch-and-learn event at PIC’s office where we shared powerful stories of getting older, including from an Independent Age service user, Jitsiri, and a visitor volunteer, Michela. We now enjoy the valued support of a large number of PIC employee volunteers who are generously give their time to deliver our coffee morning group sessions and telephone friendship service to those older people who were lonely and asked for more support as a result of the COVID-19 crisis.
