Unison Reveals Just 7% of Councils in England Require Homecare Providers to Pay Travel Time

“It cannot be right that those caring for the sick, elderly and disabled are paid hourly rates that simply don’t reflect the challenging work they do. But putting this right will require fundamental reform since, as the report from Unison highlights yet again, the root cause of low pay is a care system now experiencing years of chronic under-funding. This means everyone loses, but ultimately the biggest impact is on older people with intimate care needs. It is highly unlikely home care visits can be delivered with dignity and respect if care workers feel under pressure.”
