Commenting on Labour’s announcement that they are pledging to increase the number of home care packages for older people and those living with dementia, George McNamara, Director of Policy and Influencing at Independent Age, said:

"Social care has been skinned to the bone, leaving thousands of older people in crisis with nowhere to turn. Such support will provide a vital lifeline and will improve the lives of some older people, but will still leave many without the care they need. A commitment to free personal care would go a crucial step further and benefit all older people who need care. We are urging all political parties to get behind free personal care and make life better for older people."
