Commenting on the Global AgeWatch Index published by Help Age International, Simon Bottery, Director of Policy and External Affairs at Independent Age, the older people’s charity, said:

“Ranking 10th in the Global AgeWatch Index, one place higher than last year, represents good progress, but the UK remains unprepared for ageing in many crucial areas. We need to radically rethink how we seize the opportunities of many millions more citizens living longer lives, helping people to balance family and work responsibilities as life spans continue to increase. If we fail to take action, we won't just fail today's pensioners, but future generations to come.”
