Commenting on Eurostar's announcement of new discounted fares available exclusively through Facebook, Janet Morrison, Chief Executive of Independent Age, the older people’s charity, said:
“It’s inevitable that businesses are going to increasingly use social media to interact with customers. But it is important they offer alternatives so they don’t end up inadvertently discriminating against any group.
“It is vital that older people do not lose out if they don’t have the digital skills or don’t have easy access to a computer, smart phone or tablet.
“In our ageing society, companies have a duty to think about how they ensure fair access for this growing portion of their customer base."
