In response to the introduction of the NHS and Social Care Commission Bill, by Norman Lamb MP, which aims to establish an independent commission to examine the future of the NHS and social care systems, Simon Bottery, Director of Policy and External Relations at Independent Age, the older people’s charity said:

“We welcome calls for a cross-party commission to review the future of the NHS and social care in England. Both are facing unprecedented challenges and a radical rethink is required, particularly as by 2037 nearly 1 in 4 people in the UK will be over the age of 65. We would urge politicians to put aside political differences and work together to face these challenges, otherwise it is the sick, frail and elderly in our country who will lose out.”
