Independent Age, the charity which offers a helping hand to thousands of older people across the UK (including 270 people in the East Midlands), invites you to a private guided tour of the 16th century Burghley House in Stamford during its famous flower festival on Tuesday 11 October.
Visiting the historic Burghley House at this special time of year, you will have the chance to enjoy the elaborate floral displays on show in the State Rooms. Flower enthusiasts will be able to marvel at the autumn-themed arrangements inspired by their stately surroundings which already house an impressive collection of 17th century Italian masterpieces and an exceptional collection of Oriental and European ceramics, among other works of art.
Visitors will be treated to a private tour of the house in the morning, a sandwich lunch in the Orangery and have the freedom to roam around the grounds, including the Gardens of Surprise and the Sculpture Garden.
All proceeds raised from the tour will support the charity’s work of tackling older people’s poverty and loneliness by offering information, advice and friendship.

About Burghley House
Burghley House was built and mostly designed by William Cecil, Lord High Treasurer to Queen Elizabeth I, between 1555 and 1587. During each following century the descendants of the Lord High Treasurer, the 1st Lord Burghley, have all contributed to the collections that fill this magnificent house. Today it has one of the finest assemblies of 17th century Italian masterpieces, an exceptional collection of Oriental and European ceramics, fine furniture, textiles and works of art grouped together in a magnificent setting that remains a family home. Burghley is truly a treasure house.
