Responding to the Queen’s Speech, Janet Morrison, chief executive of Independent Age, the older people’s charity, said:

“Yet again, the opportunity for the Government to address the future of health and social care funding has been swept under the carpet and ignored.  Just last week that the Health Secretary told MPs that society needed to give a lot more thought to social care funding over the next few decades. But time is fast running out. The current NHS funding settlement only takes us to 2020, as does the government’s ‘pause’ to social care funding reform. It would be a disaster if we get to the end of this Parliament without any answers about what happens next.

“We urge the Prime Minister and his Government to show leadership by offering a vision for the future of health and social care. To make this work they need to engage other political parties, older people, charities and health and care professionals too.”
