Media reports suggest this week's Panorama Behind Closed Doors: Elderly Care Exposed could raise questions about the use of CCTV in care homes.
Independent Age Chief Executive, Janet Morrison, said:
“In any setting, the privacy and dignity of care home residents must be protected. In the rare cases where there is a genuine cause for concern about the care of a resident we could see the potential for using CCTV. However cameras must not be used as a matter of routine and we would not want their use to become the norm. They should never become a substitute for good management and proper staff supervision.”
This week Independent Age is launching Wise Guide 4 – a comprehensive booklet that outlines advice on choosing a care home. Wise Guide 4 also offers information about what to do where concerns about quality of care are raised. To order Wise Guide 4 call 0800 319 6611 or email our advice team
