Morgan Vine, Head of Policy and Influencing at Independent Age, said:

“We welcome the Renters Reform bill as it starts its journey through parliament.

“Over the last decade, the number of older people privately renting has increased by a huge 56 per cent. Renting in later life can be incredibly precarious, and more and more people in this situation are calling our helpline for advice. We know that many older people are living in poor quality, insecure and unaffordable houses, this is unacceptable.

“We’ll be fighting to amplify the voices of older people to ensure all older renters in financial hardship get the protection they need and a place they can call home.”
