In response to the launch of Carers Week 2015, Janet Morrison, Chief Executive of Independent Age, said:

“Carers who are over 65 are the fastest growing group of carers in the UK – numbering almost 1.3 million. They do a vital job, providing unpaid care for partners, family members and friends. Without them, our health and social care systems couldn’t function. Yet they are likely to face financial difficulties or health problems of their own. It is estimated that fewer than 1 in 10 older carers receive any services from their local authority at all. That’s why Independent Age is proud to be part of Carers Week, working to engage communities and to reach those caring for others, ensuring they have access to all the information and support available to them.”
