In response to David Cameron speaking at the Age UK conference today, Janet Morrison, Chief Executive of Independent Age, the older people’s charity, said:
“As a starting point for a wider debate about health and social care spending, we welcome David Cameron's commitment to maintain social care funding at least at its current levels. However it is essential to realise that this would in practice lead to a continued decline in care availability because demand for social care is rising as our population ages. In addition, it is not clear how a future government could protect social care funding, which is delivered by councils, without either 'ringfencing' part of local authority grants for social care or protecting all funding to councils.”
