In response to today’s poll of GPs from the Care and Support Alliance (CSA), revealing their concern about the impact of underfunding and rationing of social care, Janet Morrison, Chief Executive of Independent Age, said:

“Earlier this week the Chief Executive of NHS England, Simon Stevens, said he wanted to avoid people being passed from ‘pillar to post’ when getting the preventative care they need. But we estimate that 70,000 of the most disabled pensioners do not get any form of paid or unpaid care at home. Older people are the largest users of the NHS, and today’s research highlights how yet again a severely underfunded social care system is having a damaging impact on the NHS. Having an honest debate about the true costs of social care should be one of the first priorities of any incoming government after the election on May 7th.”
