Commenting on Department for Work & Pensions figures published this morning, Income-related benefits: estimates of take-up: financial year 2015/16, Janet Morrison, Chief Executive of Independent Age, the older people’s charity, said:
"Pension Credit is fast becoming the overlooked benefit for the over 75s, with the amount of Pension Credit claimed by people aged 75 and over dropping in the past four years. Pension Credit is meant to provide vital financial help to older people who most need it, yet 1.4 million pensioners are missing out on what equates to an average of £2,000 per year for each household entitled to the benefit. For too many years now, Pension Credit has slipped as a priority when in fact the government needs to significantly increase take-up of this benefit among those who need it most.”
