Commenting on reports in the Telegraph that the government is considering introducing a Care ISA, George McNamara, Director of Policy and Influencing at Independent Age, says:
“From what we know, this proposal will only help the wealthy few at the top of the tree, for the vast majority it will do nothing to help alleviate the costs of social care. It will not end the crisis in social care – today or in the future.
“The government must be bolder in its approach and create a social care system that is fair and accessible for all. This also requires addressing the quality of care and ensuring that if people have to pay more, directly or through additional tax, they are able to access the care and support they need in the way they want, which currently isn’t the case.”
