Commenting on Personal Social Services Adult Social Care Survey figures for England 2016/17, published this morning by NHS Digital, Janet Morrison, Chief Executive of Independent Age, the older people’s charity, said:

“These figures show the grim reality of daily life for many of the oldest people receiving social care. Far too many people say they struggle with daily tasks such as getting dressed, going to the toilet or getting around at home. Shockingly, more than 40% of people over 75 who receive care services say they do not even leave their home, and we know this can lead to loneliness and social isolation, which can have its own negative effects on health.

"The care and support system is under immense pressure and the Government must deliver on its promise of a Green Paper on social care as a first step towards stopping frail elderly people, now and in the future, going without the care and support they desperately need.”
