Commenting on the Personal Social Services Adult Social Care Survey figures for England 2017/18, George McNamara, Director of Policy and Influencing at Independent Age, said:

"These figures highlight the stark reality of day to day life for many older people who receive social care services. Far too many people still struggle with daily tasks such as getting in and out of bed by themselves, washing or going to the toilet. It cannot be acceptable that nearly half of people over 75 who receive social care services never leave their homes. Older people and their families who struggle to get the support they need have been waiting over a year for the government to get on with publishing their social care green paper and put in place a solution to the care crisis. Change is long overdue and the government must get real about delivering a system that delivers free personal care for all older people who need it."
