Commenting on the Cost of Living Alone report from the Office for National Statistics, George McNamara, Director of Policy and Influencing at Independent Age, said:
“With a more than 50% increase on the number of 45-64 year-olds living alone over the past 20 years, this has significant implications for older age groups in the future. It is often presumed that older people have someone who can look after them, but this isn’t always the case. We need an overhaul of the social care system to ensure that older people are not left stranded and without the care they deserve because they live alone.”
