Commenting on the new timetable for the raising of State Pension Age to 68, as published by Department for Work and Pensions, Janet Morrison, Chief Executive of Independent Age, the older people's charity, said:
“The Government is once again moving the goalposts on the state pension, and attempting to bring forward a rise in State Pension Age when reports just this week suggest increases in life expectancy may be tailing off. It is not clear at all from these proposals what will happen to those older people who are unable to remain in work due to illness or disability, but who will be waiting ever longer to receive the state pension. The Government must set out how these proposals will deliver a secure income for the poorest households, who have the lowest healthy life expectancy, as they are the groups who are at risk of falling ever further behind.”
