Commenting on a new study finding the number of older people requiring assistance with daily tasks is set to double by 2035, George McNamara, Director of Policy and Influencing at Independent Age, the older people’s charity, says:
"Social care is in crisis. Many older people are being denied vital care by an underfunded system that often does not work to meet the needs of older people and their families.
We urgently need radical reform that reflects both current and future care needs. This is in the hands of the government. Failure to do so will only hit the most vulnerable older people hardest. This is a totally unacceptable situation leaving many people in later life stranded without any lifeline."
