Commenting on the National Centre for Social Research survey which found a a majority of people in the UK in favour of increased levels of tax and public spending, George McNamara, Director of Policy at Independent Age, the older people’s charity, said:
“This chimes with our own research which found that almost three-quarters (74%) of working-age adults in England support free personal care for everyone who needs it, with more than two-thirds of adults in England (69%) agreeing that they would be willing to pay more to provide free personal care for all. However, the government needs to recognise that people are only willing to pay more for better quality services and greater availability, not for the services they currently see as failing them.”
