After polls closed on voting for the next Mayor of London, Janet Morrison, Chief Executive of Independent Age, said:

“There are over a million over 65s in the capital, and many thousands of them turned out to vote for the new Mayor. London’s a great city to be young in, but we think one of the Mayor’s first priorities should be to make London the greatest city in the world in which to grow old.  We’d don’t see any reason that London can’t replicate Manchester, which two years ago was recognised as the UK’s first age friendly city by the World Health Organisation.”
