Ahead of the local government funding settlement debate in the House of Commons, George McNamara, Director of Policy and Influencing at Independent Age, commented on the Government’s additional one-off funding for social care, saying:
“This money should not be sniffed at to help a social care system that is on its knees. However, it is a drop in the ocean when compared to the billions of pounds of cuts that have hit the most vulnerable older people the hardest over the last ten years. Every day, over a million older people are denied vital care due to service cuts and a system that doesn’t work for them. We need urgent, sustainable reform of social care to ensure older people are thriving, not just surviving in later life.”
