Commenting on the Local Government Association survey showing 58% all council leaders in England want an increase in income tax to fund social care, Janet Morrison, Chief Executive of Independent Age, the older people’s charity, said:

“This week we have heard more evidence that national politicians and local councils believe the crisis in social care can only be solved at a national level. Many older people in care and their families are bearing the brunt of the government’s failure to take action to address this crisis in adult social care, as government lurches from one quick fix to another. Having delayed the publication of the social care green paper further, it is incumbent on the Prime Minister to ensure that, when published, the green paper presents fully-costed proposals on social care that will address issues around variations in quality, lack of choice and the workforce issues in the care sector that we hear about on a near daily basis.”
