Commenting on a letter jointly signed by Independent Age, calling on the government to provide more financial support for unpaid carers, Deborah Alsina MBE, Chief Executive of Independent Age, said:

“It’s really important the Government recognises the essential role that unpaid carers play in our society, and the invaluable support they provide to friends and family of all ages; many of the people we speak to in later life care for a partner or a child. The physical requirements of this, coupled with the financial impact, can be incredibly stressful. For too long, unpaid carers have not been given the right support, and the COVID-19 pandemic has thrown into sharp focus the pressure placed on them. The Government needs to recognise all that unpaid carers do, which is why we’re joining the call to make sure all carers have the financial support they need.”
