Commenting on findings from the Campaign to End Loneliness that more help is needed for the lonely to reduce NHS demands this winter, Janet Morrison, Chief Executive of Independent Age, older people’s charity and founding member of the Campaign to End Loneliness, said:
“The physical and mental health consequences of loneliness for older people must not be underestimated. With the NHS already under considerable pressure, we as a society must do all we can to help raise awareness of the support that is available to lonely older people. In addition, we need to provide services that help to alleviate loneliness and also to adjust our attitudes to later life and recognise and celebrate the fact that older people have skills and knowledge to share with the community.”
