In response to the publication of Quality Matters by the Care Quality Commission, Janet Morrison, Chief Executive of Independent Age, the older people’s charity said:
“Quality Matters is a welcome commitment to ensuring high-quality adult social care is available to older people and their families. Against a backdrop of a care system in crisis, it is vital that quality is seen as being the responsibility of everyone in the system. While this is a positive development, we know that around a fifth of social care services are unsatisfactory, so there is no room for complacency. The forthcoming consultation on social care must not only set out a more sustainable plan for funding but also clarify in much greater detail how variation in quality and poor performance in care services will be tackled head-on and addressed.”
