Commenting on today’s COVID-19 press conference with Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Deborah Alsina MBE, Chief Executive of Independent Age, said:

“Many people in later life will have felt encouraged today as the Prime Minister talked about plans for the UK’s COVID recovery. Returning to normality, including being able to meet with family and friends again will be welcome, but many older people will remain cautious.

“With all people aged over 70 either being classed as the clinically vulnerable group, or told to shield, it is essential that they receive clear information on how to stay safe and manage their risk away from home, and what to do if there is a local lockdown or if shielding returns.

“Independent Age is calling on the Government to produce clear guidance in a range of formats and to communicate it through multiple channels, particularly to those among us who are at increased risk and who rely on sources other than the internet for information.”
