Independent Age, the charity which tackles older people’s poverty and loneliness through the ‘ABC’ of advice, befriending and campaigning, has launched a new freephone number to accompany its series of free guides for later life.

The Wise Guide series is a free resource for older people; whether you are retired yourself, keeping an eye out for your older relatives, friends or neighbours, or whether you volunteer or work professionally with older people.

At Independent Age we’ve been listening to the needs of older people for over 150 years. We know from experience that older people today face a whole host of different issues, ranging from loneliness and isolation, to bereavement, problems with health, a lack of opportunities and many others.

We believe there is lots of information that older people need but don’t always get, which is why we have put together the Wise Guide series. These comprehensive, concise, free books draw on the knowledge that the team at Independent Age has gained over years of advising older people.

The Wise Guides are packed full with helpful tips, contact numbers, good ideas and valuable insights to help boost your income, find support and stay independent.

We now offer three Wise Guides for over-65s, which are completely free to order, either online at www.independentage.org or by calling the new freephone number, 0800 319 6611.

Wise Guide 1: Advice for later life – support and entitlements for over-65s

Wide Guide 2: Extra help at home – essential advice for over-65s to live independently

Wise Guide 3: Healthy, happy, connected – support and advice for older people living alone

And you can now pre-order Wise Guide 4: Choosing a care home: support and advice to get the best from your move

Praise for the Wise Guides:

“This information is extremely useful, especially as I live alone and far from family.”

“The Wise Guides are so wonderful and could be so helpful in many ways…I have passed mine onto friends and they are delighted.”
