On Tuesday (24th June) Director of Policy Simon Bottery joined Holly Willoughby, Phillip Schofield and Mark Wright on ITV's This Morningto answer viewers emails about how to choose a home – and what to do if you are concerned at the care being provided.
“The opportunity to appear on This Morning was last minute but we’re now used to getting someone onto the tube and down to a studio as quickly as possible”, said Simon. “I was really impressed by the presenters and crew, many of whom had an understanding of care home issues through visiting a parent or other relative. Viewers certainly responded – in a couple of hours This Morning had nearly 100 detailed emails with concerns or comments. The ones we couldn’t answer on air all received a response, signposting them to appropriate support.”
Additionally, after the show Simon was able to create a ‘Five tips on choosing the right care home’ video for the This Morning website.
This Morning had its work cut out to balance a show that included other, much lighter issues: other highlights of the show included Jason Donovan promoting his new musical Annie Get Your Gun, Summer Sale fashion tips, hair loss issues, the latest Coronation Street plot twist and the story of a 60-year-old man who took out a £1000 newspaper advert to help find a new partner following his dying wife’s wish of him finding love again.
