My name is Jenny and I’m 76 years old. My health hasn’t been that good. My eyesight is fading and I have arthritis in my legs.

The thought of having to leave my home, my neighbours and the community I’d known for 40 years and move to sheltered accommodation filled me with dread.

I wasn’t coping and didn’t know which way to turn. I tried searching for help on my computer and a message appeared from Independent Age saying, ‘Do you need help? Don’t know which way to turn?’ It was like a little miracle!

I called the Helpline number and spoke to an Independent Age adviser. I was given in depth advice on my options, sent information and told who to ring at the council.

When the council came round and said they would help, I cried with relief. They fixed grab rails to help me climb the stairs and get out of bed. They also helped pay for a stair lift and wet room.

Ringing the Independent Age free Helpline has changed my life. I’d advise anyone to reach out to Independent Age. I had no idea of the help that was available and I don’t know what I’d have done.
