Pension Credit can top up your weekly income to £167.25 if you’re single, or £255.25 if you’re a couple, so if your income is lower than that you might qualify. You could get more than that if you have a disability, caring responsibilities, or certain housing costs. Even if you think you’d only get a few extra pounds from Pension Credit, it’s worth claiming, because Pension Credit is your passport to other benefits like Housing Benefit.
If you reached State Pension age before 6 April 2016, you might also qualify for some extra money through Pension Credit if you saved towards your retirement – for example, through a work pension. This extra money is called Savings Credit.
A third of people who could be getting Pension Credit aren’t claiming it, so make sure you’re not one of them! Pension Credit is one of the easiest benefits to make a claim for. Just call the claim line on 0800 99 1234 to check if you qualify.
