Travel to hospital can be expensive, especially if you’re having to go regularly for treatment. If your income is low, you might be able to get help with the costs.
If you already get Guarantee Pension Credit or some other benefits, you automatically qualify for this. You’ll need to fill in a form to claim back travel costs. To find out if you can get Guarantee Pension Credit, ring the claim line on 0800 99 1234.
Otherwise, check if you qualify for the NHS Low Income Scheme. Your income and savings will be looked out to work out whether you can get this.
Generally, you’ll be expected to reclaim costs after you’ve paid them. If you need help before you travel, speak to your GP or the hospital. If you do get help with hospital travel costs, check what transport this allows you to use – you might not get a full refund if you travel by taxi.
