About our craftivism project

Craftivism is a campaign merging craft and activism. It brings people together to use their creativity in peaceful protest.

In response to the coronavirus pandemic we are highlighting unpaid carers, and the many volunteers who are going above and beyond to deliver vital aid. Our ask is that you stitch a heart-felt thank you to those assisting you or your loved ones in the hope that we can kickstart a bigger conversation about care.

Craft is often made behind closed doors and at home, and so now is the perfect time to get involved without breaking social distancing regulations. Not to mention the welcome distraction this type of activity can currently bring. The heart is a perfect way to symbolise the overall thanks and love that we feel for our volunteers and it can be personalised to include an individual message. Alongside these kits we have sent postcards; one to return to us because we want to hear these amazing stories of self-lessness, and another that can be used as a thank you card to your chosen person. We want to see and share your amazing creativity (or works of heart) so please post your photos to social media using the hashtag #VolunCheer or you can email your pictures to us at getcrafty@independentage.org.

Despite the underlying message of this project it is one that should focus on positivity and feel-good stories that have come out of the pandemic. We are spreading some #VolunCheer and ask you to do so too.
