You might be starting to think about where you want to live in later life.  Perhaps you would benefit from some home adaptations or maybe you want somewhere that's easier and cheaper to run. Whether it's downsizing or looking for something that offers more support and care, there are many options for you to consider.

Questions we get asked the most

I’m struggling to live at home. Can I get help?Is there help I can get to pay my council tax?Is there help I can get to pay my rent?I need to find a care home - where do I start?

Home adaptations

Making adaptations to your home can help you to live there independently for longer.  Sometimes just a small adaptation can make a big difference.

There are many adaptations, products and services that can help you to continue living safely at home. You can get support to decide what you need and you might be eligible for help with costs.

Home security

Although burglary isn't very common, it makes sense to take precautions. There are many simple and effective ways you can improve your home security and you can get help to put measures in place.

How to stay safe at home

There are lots of potential hazards in our homes but if you’re aware of the danger areas and unsafe habits, you’re more likely to be able to keep yourself from harm. There are steps you can take to protect yourself. You can also get help to stay safe and well at home.

Home maintenance

Keeping your home in good repair helps you stay safe and well, and may reduce running costs. Make sure you’re carrying out essential checks and find out who is responsible for maintenance and repairs if you rent.

Moving home

Moving home can be stressful and expensive but it could make your life easier. Although some decisions may not be your first choice, planning earlier on will help to give you more options. Don’t wait until there is a crisis. Take time to consider all your options. If you do decide to move, careful preparation can help everything go smoothly.

Types of housing

If you're thinking of moving, there are various options available. You might want to consider housing that has been specially designed for older people. You can continue to live independently but with emergency help on hand or more specialised care and support if you need it.

Equity release

Equity release is a way to release cash from your home without having to move. There are advantages and disadvantages to equity release products. You should consider all your options and get independent financial advice before deciding if it’s the right choice for you.
