How to contact our Helpline team
Contact our free and confidential Helpline for expert advice. You can contact us by phone, email or text-to-speech. If you call us, we can speak to you in your chosen language using an interpreting service. We also offer video calling with a British Sign Language (BSL) interpreter.
By phone
Call our free Helpline on 0800 319 6789. Lines are open Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5.30pm. Closed on bank holidays.
By email
Email us at helpline@independentage.org.
Using text-to-speech
Through the Relay UK app, your text will be turned into speech. Our Helpline team's response will then be turned into text for you to read. Download the app from the Relay UK website.
Using British Sign Language
You can contact us with a BSL interpreter. This will start a video call with a trained BSL interpreter to one of our expert advisers.
With an interpreter
We can give you information and support using an interpreting service. Tell us which language you would like to use when you call us.
How we can help you
If you have a question or need support, our friendly Helpline team is here to listen. If we can help right away, we will. And if you need advice on something a bit more complicated, we’ll arrange a free chat with one of our specialist advisers.
- Do you need advice about benefits and other entitlements? Would you like to check what you may be able to claim? Do you need help to apply?
- Would you like to know more about paying for care and support in your home?
- Do you have a housing issue you need help with?
- Do you need help to find grants you may qualify for
Benefits checks
We offer free, confidential benefits checks to people who have reached State Pension age or who will reach it within six months and want to start planning. When you have a benefits check, the adviser will usually ask you about:
- any occupational or private pensions and any benefits you currently receive
- your earnings, if you are working
- any savings or investments you have
- how much you pay in rent or mortgage and service charges
- how much you pay in Council Tax.
It will be helpful to have this information ready before your advice call. If someone else lives with you, the adviser may also ask for some of this information about them too.
If you want to know if you might qualify for a disability benefit, the adviser may also ask questions about your health.

We understand that each individual’s needs are unique, which is why the support we offer is personalised to you and your circumstances. Read our client charter for information about what you can expect when using our services, and what we ask from you.
We want everyone who uses our services to feel safe, protected, welcome and included. See our full Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Statement for more information.
Our advice service holds the AQS Quality Mark in recognition of the high-quality service that Independent Age delivers.
