My story: Christina

It’s disappointing that the Government is producing another of their reports after the rise of Black Lives Matter. How many reports do they need whilst several reports are, dusting away on their shelves?

Another commission set up to produce report that will be piled on top of the others that no one will read after it’s presented. It will go the same ways as the Stephen Lawrence report, Windrush, Grenfell.

Our hopes are raised only to be dashed down again and again. We don’t seem to learn any lessons from any of this.

I wonder if black people do better in the hotter climates we’ve moved away from and so our resistance to this virus is less. Personally, I’ve observed all the rules, stayed at home, worn a mask, eat healthily and tried to occupy myself mentally by working to support vulnerable people.

Keeping myself occupied has stopped me from becoming anxious. I stopped watching the Government’s daily update because I wanted to keep positive. I haven’t driven sixty miles to test my eyesight.

My sister-in-law is a nurse and I keep in constant touch with her. Initially my concern for her was the lack of testing and lack of PPE. However, as she’s going through menopause she says the PPE leaves her feeling like she’s in a sauna when on duty. None of this is easy.

I haven’t driven sixty miles to test my eyesight.
