No one left in the cold
Many older people are struggling to afford essential costs, like buying food and keeping their homes warm.
We’re taking drastic action, so that no older person is left in the cold.
At a time when 85% of older people have reported being unable to afford their essential costs on the new full State Pension of just £221 a week, the situation is becoming harder and harder.
Each day, our Helpline hears heart-breaking stories from older people living on a low income, who face a harsh reality with difficult choices. Many struggle to afford to eat a balanced diet or keep their houses warm.
What did we do?
As a chilling reminder of the impossible situation older people face during the unforgiving winter months, we made an ice sculpture of Rob and placed it outside Tate Modern.
Rob is living on a low income and like many others, has recently lost his Winter Fuel Payment. Rob wanted his experiences to be heard, and we made that happen.
Older people deserve to live well. For the almost two million older people in poverty, and millions more facing financial hardship, we need the Government to act. Nobody should be left in the cold.
