Volunteer

Our national networks of volunteers, led by regional area managers, reach across the UK and the Republic of Ireland to offer friendly, local support to older people.

Whatever your talents, you can use them to help us with our work improving the lives of older people. Your time is valued just as highly as the practical help we give - if not more so. Whether you're best at planning parties and social events, or you're a good listener who likes a friendly visit, or maybe you want to learn new skills - we have all kinds of volunteer roles avaliable to suit you, and we'll pay for your expenses.

How you can help

Click on the links below to learn about the different volunteering roles we offer, and read volunteers' own stories of their experiences on the job.

Volunteer Visitor - visiting and befriending an older person
Facilitator - Live Wires - leading telephone discussion groups
Organising Volunteer - raising awareness and coordinating volunteers in your community
Volunteer Events Organiser - helping to organise vital fundraising events
Big Tea Host - hosting a Big Tea to raise funds while having fun with friends
Charter member - discuss and debate our current work and how we can move forward

We are also looking for volunteers to help organise our new programme of social activities for older people.

Just a few hours a month makes all the difference

You will be supported by a local Independent Age representative and meet up with other volunteers in your area from time to time. For more information, email Jennifer Owens, or phone her on 020 7605 4255, with the following details about yourself: name, address, telephone number, your level of mobility and the types of transport you have available to you.

'There's plenty of laughter and the most important thing is to be there as a friend.'
