What is The Big Tea?
The Big Tea launched in 2010 and since then your brews have
raised thousands for vulnerable older people across the UK and the
Republic of Ireland, on their behalf, Thank you!
Wherever and however you like to take you tea, every single cup
will help Independent Age give older people dignity and peace of
mind in their later years. Simply request a Big Tea pack and we'll
send you everything you'll need including recipe cards,
invitations, posters, balloons, a collection box and information on
the fantastic competition prizes up for grabs this year. Then just
arrange your favourite time for tea, send out the invitations and
get the kettle on!
Be part of something big!
Imagine giving an older person the opportunity
to combat their isolation by getting out and about with a
wheeled walker, or helping them keep warm during winter with advice
on fuel allowances, or making sure they have someone to turn to in
emergencies. The Big Tea gives you the chance to make a real
difference.
"I am so grateful for the immediate help you have
been to me during this huge upheaval and disaster." Judy, 94,
Independent Age member, helped during severe flooding
There is always time for tea so if you can't hold your Big
Tea during Big Tea Week 1- 7 October, don't despair, have it when
it's convenient for you!
This year we're hoping to make The Big Tea the
biggest and best yet. We're aiming to raise £20,000 to continue our
important work and we need your help…

Jane Fearnley-Whittingstall

We are thrilled that food writer, Jane Fearnley-Whittingstall,
is heading up The Big Tea again this year. Jane said of the
event:
"When I was a child tea-time was special, whether it was
wafer-thin bread and butter at my Grandmother's table with a lace
cloth and bone china, or toasted crumpets at my Mum's
formica-topped kitchen table. This year I'll be inviting friends to
join in the 'Big Tea' to share their childhood memories - and their
delicious tea-time recipes. The Big Tea raises funds for
Independent Age, the organization that supports older people in
their own homes. Their work is so worthwhile, and they need our
support".
Jane has kindly offered us two of her recipes from her book
'The Good Granny Cookbook: Traditional favourites for modern
families'. Why not use them for your Big Tea?

Stuart Gillies
In a Big Tea first we are delighted to have the support of
world-renowned chef, Stuart Gillies. Stuart is currently Managing
Director of Gordon Ramsay Holdings Limited and formerly Chef Patron
at London's Savoy Grill. Stuart has kindly offered us two recipes for you to try
out in 2012.
